Vintage Watch Mods is a small independent watch business founded in Finland in 2023. We create custom vintage-style watch builds for people who appreciate the proportions, patina and purposeful character of classic timepieces, but want the reliability of a newly built modern watch.

Every piece we offer is built around a simple idea: a watch can capture the atmosphere of another era without sacrificing the practicality expected from a modern automatic timepiece.

Our watches are newly built, individually assembled and deliberately aged. They are not restored vintage watches. Instead, they combine carefully selected modern components with the warm lume, faded colours, softened finishes and subtle imperfections that give older watches their unmistakable character.

Our Story

Vintage Watch Mods grew from years of building custom timepieces for individual clients and fellow watch enthusiasts.

We have always been drawn to watches that look as though they have already lived a life: worn military watches, faded dive watches, compact field watches and functional GMT designs created for travel and exploration.

Original vintage watches possess a character that is difficult to reproduce. However, they can also be expensive, fragile and increasingly difficult to maintain. We wanted to create another option, new watches with vintage style, dependable modern movements and a finish that feels considered rather than artificially distressed.

What began with individual builds gradually developed into a refined collection of vintage-inspired automatic watches. Since founding Vintage Watch Mods in 2023, we have continued improving our component selection, workshop processes and aging techniques with every watch produced.

A Small Independent Watch Business

We are deliberately small and independent.

This allows us to concentrate on the details that give each watch its identity rather than producing anonymous designs in large volumes. Every model is selected and developed around a specific idea, whether that means the clean proportions of a compact field watch, the practical layout of a GMT or the weathered character of an aged military diver.

Product direction, collection curation, quality standards and customer support are managed from Finland. We work closely with our long-standing production workshop in Asia, where the individual components are sourced, finished, assembled and checked.

This structure gives us the personal approach of a small Finnish business together with the sourcing capabilities and technical experience of a specialist watch workshop.

A More Efficient Way to Build Watches

Traditional retail supply chains can involve component distributors, importers, wholesalers, agents and retailers before a finished watch reaches its owner. Every additional stage adds handling, overhead and markup.

Our production workshop is located close to many of the specialist manufacturers responsible for producing today’s watch components. This allows approved parts to be sourced directly from manufacturers and established commercial supply channels without passing through an unnecessary chain of middlemen.

Cases, dials, hands, crystals, bracelets and movements can therefore be selected and assembled within a closely coordinated production network.

Our advantage is not that we take shortcuts. It is that the route between the component manufacturer, our workshop and the customer is shorter and more efficient.

By reducing unnecessary overhead, we can invest more of the final price into the parts, finishing and assembly of the watch. The result is a premium vintage-style watch build at a competitive price without the traditional retail markup associated with a long distribution chain.

Our Aging Process

A convincing vintage finish is about more than making individual components look old. The dial, hands, case, bezel and bracelet must feel as though they belong to the same watch.

After years of building custom timepieces, we have refined a controlled aging process for our dials, hands and cases. Each element is treated with the complete design in mind.

Depending on the model, this can include:

  • Warm, aged dial tones

  • Hand-finished patina

  • Matching vintage-style hands and lume

  • Faded or distressed bezel inserts

  • Brushed and lightly weathered case finishes

  • Softened colours inspired by naturally aged tool watches

  • Carefully selected straps and bracelets that complement the design

The objective is character, not excessive damage. Aging should enhance the watch while allowing its design and functionality to remain the focus.

Because these finishes are applied individually, slight variations can occur from one watch to another. These differences are part of what makes aged watch builds special: no two pieces develop precisely the same appearance.

Vintage Watch Mods is an independent business. Our watches are custom-built products and are not manufactured, sponsored, endorsed or authorised by any unaffiliated legacy watch brand.

References to third-party movement manufacturers or calibre numbers are used only when needed to describe the components inside a watch accurately.

We believe transparency matters. Customers should know whether they are purchasing an original vintage watch, a factory-produced branded watch or an independently assembled vintage-style timepiece. Our watches belong firmly in the third category.

Are Vintage Watch Mods watches handmade?

Our watches are most accurately described as hand-assembled and individually aged. The workshop does not manufacture every movement component from raw material. It combines new, selected components into a finished watch and performs the ageing, assembly, regulation and inspection work described above.

Are the watches made from old or previously worn parts?

No. The case, dial, hands, bezel, movement, crystal, crown and bracelet begin as new components. Their worn appearance is created intentionally before final assembly.

Is the patina natural?

No. Naturally developed patina forms over many years. Our matte dials, warmer hands, faded bezels and worn-looking steel surfaces receive deliberate vintage-style finishes. We disclose this as intentional ageing rather than presenting it as naturally acquired age.

Does every watch look exactly like the product photographs?

The overall design, colour scheme and specifications remain consistent, but the precise level and distribution of case wear can vary. This variation is an expected result of the hand-ageing process.

Is every movement regulated?

Every movement is tested. Movements already meeting the workshop tolerances are left as supplied; movements outside the acceptable range are regulated and tested again. A movement that cannot pass is rejected.

What accuracy standard does the workshop use?

The workshop targets a daily rate between −15 and +15 seconds, amplitude above 220° and beat error below 0.6 ms during its timing-machine checks. Actual wrist performance can vary with use, position, temperature and winding level.

Is every watch pressure-tested?

Yes. Every completed watch is individually wet-pressure tested after final assembly and certified by the workshop as having passed at 20 ATM, equivalent to a nominal 200 metres of static pressure. This rating confirms the pressure-test level, but it is not a recommendation to dive to 200 metres or a claim of ISO 6425 professional dive-watch certification.

How long does building a watch take?

The complete assembly, ageing, testing, inspection and packing process normally takes three to five business days. Delivery time after dispatch varies by destination.

Who performs the final inspection?

The original assembler completes the final inspection under bright lighting and magnification. Order-processing staff then verify the model, strap or bracelet and included accessories before the package is sealed.

Final Thoughts on Our Watch Assembly Process

The finished watch is the result of more than placing a movement inside a case. It begins with inspecting new components, then moves through controlled dial, hand, bezel and case ageing. The dial and hands are fitted and aligned, the movement is cased, the stem and gaskets are prepared, and the exterior components are installed.

Only after regulation, functional testing, successful 20 ATM wet-pressure testing and an individual final inspection is the watch cleaned, photographed and prepared for shipping.
